Well, we have officially left Iowa and are now in Virginia! We took a couple of pictures with our “SOLD” sign back in Iowa for our realtor, and this one was by far my favorite.

SOLD!

Leaving doesn’t really feel real yet. It kind of feels like we’re on vacation and just renting a house. I know that it’ll take time. We lived in our first home for 10 years and I’ve never lived outside of Iowa! But I know that home is where the heart is, and home is the people (and puppies) inside.

Olive is settling in nicely. She did GREAT in the car ride out here. She was also quite the trooper in the two hotels we stayed in. She had lots of things to investigate and sniff, and she even got to ride in the elevator! She’s very happy now that we have our things again. She was a little confused when we were in our new house with only a suitcase and her bed. She’s happy to have her couches back and all the things that smell like home. We were a little worried about her not having a yard anymore, but she actually is taking to the life of a “city” dog quite well! She gets several walks a day and she’s loving it! We also have a balcony off of the kitchen and she loves to lay out there all. day. long. when the sun is shining. She likes to watch the planes fly over (we’re in the flight path for Dulles Airport) and watch kids and other dogs out and about in the neighborhood.

Sunday morning we headed out first thing to head to downtown DC to check out the Cherry Blossoms. We were glad we went early – it was NUTS when we were headed out. Olive had so much fun walking around! She got to meet lots of dogs, get sniffs galore, and several people stopped us to take her picture. She’s so popular. 😉 It was really neat to walk around the National Mall. I’d never been to DC before, and I’m anxious to go back (sans Olive as she can’t go into the memorials).

We quickly walked by the MLK Memorial and I snapped a picture of this quote. Powerful, powerful words.

And you know I had to take a picture of the famous Cherry Blossoms!

On our way out of town we stopped for donuts from Sticky Fingers. HOLY COW. Delicious.

I can’t wait to share all our adventures with you! And to really get into my new kitchen and bake up a storm!
